What is endangering this particular biome?
Temperate rain forests have the greatest amount of living matter per square acre than any other ecosystem.
In British Columbia and Chile, 40% of these forests have been preserved!
Logging is the #1 threat; these trees are targeted because they are significantly larger than any others in the world; this uproots trees and disrupts nutrient distribution in soil.
Air pollution: This mixes with moisture in the air and creates acid rain, which in turn hurts the trees and any fruits. These fruits feed some of the ecosystem's animals and they become infected with acidified nutrients as well.
Human encroachment: Poaching hurts the species diversity, and non-native plant introduction disrupts healthy competition for resources.
FUTURE IMPLICATIONS:
- Clear-cut forests
- Overruning of native plants and animals
- Disappearance of a rare biome off the face of the Earth...
- This makes life harder to preserve
